Foraging : : Rediscovering the Connection to Wild Food and Natures Abundance

Foraging is more than gathering wild plants it’s a remembering.
A return to the knowing that the land provides, and that we are not separate from nature but an active part of it.

At AKYN, foraging is held as a practice of connection. It asks us to walk slowly, listen closely, and approach the land with curiosity and care. It’s an invitation to notice the subtle shifts of the seasons, to receive what is abundant, and to gather only what we genuinely need rather than over-consuming.

Whether it’s a handful of Dandelion leaves, a sprig of Thyme, or the bright berries of Hawthorn, foraging nourishes us in many ways physically, emotionally, and intellectually.

What is Foraging?

Foraging is the practice of gathering wild plants, mushrooms, and natural materials from the environment around us. Before agriculture and supermarkets, humans lived in relationship with the land in this way moving with the seasons, paying attention to what was growing, and understanding that the natural world provides what we need at the right time.

Today, foraging offers a gentle counterbalance to modern life. It pulls us away from constant noise and back into the presence of the land. Each outing becomes an opportunity to see with fresh eyes, to witness what’s changing, and to reconnect with the wildness within and around us.

Foraging can be simple like steeping freshly gathered herbs into a warm tea or more complex if you learn the contours, microclimates, and rhythms of your local bushland. At its heart, though, the practice should be rooted in reverence and for the reciprocal relationship we share with the earth.

Foraging at AKYN: and a New Offering

Foraging has always been a guiding thread in AKYN. It shapes my tinctures, my workshops, and the way I move through each season. It continues to inspire the way I teach, craft, gather, and share.

If you’ve felt drawn to deepen your connection to the land and explore what grows around you with more intention, I’ve created something to support that journey.
